How should i tell my mom we are back together?

So my boyfriend of almost eight months is having a problem with my mom. she is very controlling and uptight. she goes from loving him to hating him all the time and he feels stressed out over her. well he is a senior and im a junior and he was having a graduation party. my whole family went and he didnt say hello to either one of my parents the whole time. they were beyond mad and my mom despises him now. i know it was wrong of him to do that and so does he, he knows he screwed up. but we had sort of an argument and my mom came up and he said he cant take her anymore and that he still loves me but shes too much for him and we need to take a break until i go to college next year. i told him its not fair and i cried so much. he said it was only a break tho and that he will be there for me next year. well then he texts me the next day late at night when i was asleep saying that he was stupid for letting me go and that he needs to be with me and that he is so stupid for everything and that he cant lose me again. but i told him he had to start acting more respectful toward my family and he said he knows. and he misses me already. i want him back but i dont want to take him back so easily. should i make him apologize to my parents directly before taking him back? he thinks its all my moms fault that happend and wont take responsibility, he only gives excuses. and idk how to tell my mom we are back together because she hates himnow and i think she was glad we took a break anyway. im just so scared my mom wont approve and i cant really talk to her about it cause she just dosnt wanna hear it, my dad said it's up to me and dosnt see anything majorly wrong with him. i need some good advice, i love him so much!
