Can i only get pregnant when i ovulate? i have been trying! to conceive for 6 months?

i know it sounds silly and i should talk to a doctor, but they dont seem to understand feelings and that they can be hurt. im 26 with a 10 month old and trying to conceive 2nd child to complete family. i have also had a period for 2 months now and im curious to when i'd ovulate . my doctor didnt seem interested in answering my questions, just to take blood to test me hormones. any comment or advice would be great... PLEASE dont be stupid though, im an adult and dont really care for it. thanks everyone!
